1:1 DESIGN LAB
PUZZLED IDENTITY: PERSONAL BRAND 3.0
Your professional identity has outgrown its current picture.
Your skills, interests, activities and ambitions may look disconnected. Because the system connecting them has never been designed.

In this intensive Design Lab, we assemble the pieces into a Personal Brand Operating Model: a coherent foundation for your brand concept, strategic direction and positioning.

Gather the Puzzle
For independent experts, creatives and multidisciplinary professionals in transition.
FRAGMENTS 01–06 · WHAT YOU’RE TRYING TO HOLD TOGETHER
You can explain every piece. Just not the picture they create together.
You have expertise. Experience. Ideas. Maybe several activities already in motion.
None of them is random. Yet the moment you try to bring them under one professional identity, the connections become difficult to explain.
THE TITLE
Your current title describes what you used to do or only the part people already understand.
The Other Expertise
You have skills that materially shape your work but remain invisible because they do not fit the expected profile.
The Multiple Activities
Each activity makes sense on its own. Together, they risk looking like an incoherent collection of offers, projects or experiments.
The Recurring Function
Across different roles, you keep creating the same kind of value but you have never had language for it.
The Hidden Interests
Certain subjects, references or disciplines keep entering your work, although you still treat them as peripheral.
The Emerging Direction
You can feel your professional identity changing before you can clearly explain what it is becoming.
So you do what personal-brand advice usually tells you to do:
Choose one thing.
Simplify the message.
Remove what might confuse people.
It may make your positioning cleaner.

It can also make it increasingly unlike you.
THE WRONG PICTURE · WHY SIMPLIFICATION STOPS WORKING
Maybe you don’t need fewer pieces. Maybe you need a different organising idea.
Most personal-brand methods begin with the picture you should present to the market.
  • Choose a niche.
  • Define one audience.
  • Make one promise.
  • Repeat one message. Again and again.

    Then every part of your identity is evaluated against that picture.
  • If a skill fits,

    you keep it.
  • If an interest complicates the story,
    you hide it.
  • If a new direction contradicts your positioning,
    you postpone it.
  • if an activity cannot be explained quickly
    you separate it from the rest.
Eventually, the picture becomes clear. But the person disappears from it.
the real problem
Your professional identity did not become incoherent.
It evolved beyond the model you were using to explain it.

The issue is not the number of pieces but the absence of a structure capable of showing:

  • what connects them;
  • which elements belong at the centre;
  • which support the whole;
  • which represent a future direction;
  • which no longer need to define you.
Clarity comes from designing the relationships inside the identity complexity.
Puzzled Identity does not begin by asking how to make you easier to market.

It begins by asking:

What larger professional system are these pieces already trying to become?
To answer that, we investigate your identity through four interconnected territories:
  • Identity.
  • Mastery.
  • Strategy.
  • MeaninG.
Together, they reveal the hidden system behind the fragments.
THE BIGGER PICTURE · FOUR TERRITORIES OF YOUR BRAND
Your pieces are not random. They belong to a system you haven’t seen yet.

A professional identity is not built from a title and a list of skills. It emerges from the relationship between four territories:

  • who you are and how you are evolving
    1
  • what you have learned to do exceptionally well
    2
  • where your professional possibilities are opening
    3
  • what DNA gives direction to your work
    4
Puzzled Identity investigates them together because none of them can define your brand alone.
Separately, these territories provide interesting information.
Connected, they produce the foundation of a brand:
  • Identity
    gives it integrity.
    1
  • Mastery
    gives it substance
    2
  • Strategy
    gives it direction.
    3
  • Meaning
    gives it significance.
    4
Your brand concept is not one thing to extract or another piece to add.
It is the idea that explains why the existing pieces belong together.

Bring them into the Lab. We’ll find out what larger system they are capable of becoming.
Start gathering your brand puzzle
THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS · FROM FRAGMENTS TO OPERATING MODEL
You don’t squeeze the pieces into a brand formula.
You discover the logic that connects them.
The Lab does not ask you to choose one territory and discard the others.
It investigates the relationships between them until a central organising idea begins to emerge.
Using a diagnostic, visual mapping, card-based investigations and strategic synthesis, we work with the real material of your professional identity: experiences, skills, tensions, interests, ambitions and emerging possibilities.
01 · Decode the pieces
See what has been there all along.

We begin with evidence from across your roles, activities and transitions.

Together, we identify:

  • patterns that keep returning;
  • skills you use without naming them;
  • functions you perform across different contexts;
  • ideas and questions that repeatedly attract you;
  • tensions between how you work and how others currently perceive you.

You leave this stage with:

an evidence map of the identity, mastery and meaning patterns already shaping your work.

The pieces stop looking random.

02 · Disrupt the old picture
Break the frame that made your complexity look incoherent.

We examine the title, niche, past success, audience expectation or professional model that may have become too small.

Then we test new connections:

  • What if an apparently peripheral interest is part of your value?
  • What if two different disciplines belong inside one concept?
  • What if the contradiction is not a weakness but the organising principle?
  • What professional possibilities appear when the old category is removed?

You leave this stage with:

several possible combinations, directions and brand-concept hypotheses.

The pieces begin forming pictures you hadn’t considered.

03 · Choose what belongs
Complexity becomes useful when it has architecture.

Not everything that belongs to you must sit at the centre of your brand.

We test each emerging direction against four questions:

  • Does it create a change that matters?
  • Do you want to keep doing and becoming this?
  • Does it connect with a real external shift or opportunity?
  • Does it belong to the intellectual world you want to build?

You leave this stage with:

a coherent architecture showing what defines your brand now, what reinforces it and what remains open for evolution.

You no longer have to communicate everything equally.

04 · Make the system recognisable
Translate the model without flattening it.

Once the internal logic is clear, we explore how other people can perceive it through:

  • your presence and way of operating;
  • language, metaphors and narrative patterns;
  • methods, tools and knowledge-transfer formats;
  • professional choices and offer directions;
  • content, experiences and visible proof.

Instead of choosing abstract brand adjectives, we translate each brand element into observable behaviour.

You leave this stage with: translation directions and positioning hypotheses ready to test.

The new picture becomes visible to others.

The goal is to build a model that can evolve without falling apart.
THE ASSEMBLED MODEL · WHAT BECOMES CLEAR
16 interconnected principles.
One model you can use to make your next decisions.
The Lab does not end with a collection of exercises, inspirational words or a polished positioning sentence detached from the rest of your work. Everything discovered during the session is synthesised into your:
Personal Brand Operating Model
Not a rigid identity to repeat forever but a strategic map of what makes your professional identity coherent, distinctive and capabel of evolving.

A system showing:
  • what remains stable as your work evolves;
  • what makes your combination distinctive;
  • what belongs at the centre;
  • where your professional identity can move next;
  • and how to make that system coherent, valuable and recognisable.

It gives you a shared foundation for decisions about your positioning, offers, content, collaborations, visual identity and next professional direction.
What you will leave with:
  • Your brand concept as the central piece
    The organising idea that connects who you are, what you do, where you are going and what your work means.
    It is not necessarily a tagline or final commercial formula.

    It is the concept against which future choices can be tested: Does this belong to the world I am building or is it simply another thing I could do?
    01
  • Identity Architecture
    A clearer understanding of:
    • the patterns that remain stable across roles and transitions;
    • the tensions and contradictions that make you distinctive;
    • the facets ready to become more visible;
    • what has genuinely been outgrown.

    It helps you decide: what must remain recognisably yours as your work evolves.
    02
  • Funtional Identity
    The recurring function you perform across different contexts - the deeper value behind your changing titles, projects and offers.

    You may repeatedly translate complexity, connect distant worlds, reveal hidden structures, provoke movement or turn abstract ideas into usable experiences.

    It helps you articulate: why people need what you do, beyond a list of services.
    03
  • Mastery combination
    A structured view of the skills, disciplines and ways of thinking that create your distinctive capability.
    Not everything you know receives equal weight. We identify the combination that gives your work its particular logic and value.

    It helps you design: offers, methods and experiences that could not be produced by expertise alone.
    04
  • Impact Direction
    The change you repeatedly enable or want your future work to make possible.
    This connects identity with usefulness: What becomes different for people, organisations or projects because of the way you work?

    It helps you clarify: the transformation behind your activity.
    05
  • Meaning Territory
    The questions, convictions, tensions and cultural conversations that give your work depth.
    This becomes the beginning of an intellectual territory others can enter, explore and eventually associate with you.

    It helps you develop: thought leadership, content themes, signature language and a coherent world around your work.
    06
  • Strategic Architecture
    A map of what belongs:
    • at the core of your brand now;
    • in a supporting role;
    • in active experimentation;
    • in a possible future;
    • outside the system you are building.

    It helps you choose: without pretending that every part of you must disappear—or be communicated simultaneously.
    07
  • Translation Direction
    Principles for making the model perceptible through:
    • your public presence;
    • language and narrative;
    • methods and tools;
    • content and knowledge transfer;
    • offers and interaction formats;
    • visual and sensory expression;
    • visible proof.

    It helps you brief: designers, writers, strategists—or yourself—without starting again from generic brand adjectives.
    08
  • Positioning Hypothesis
    Several market-facing interpretations of the model, formulated as hypotheses to explore rather than one final sentence carved in stone.
    Each connects: the people or transition you want to address + the change you enable + your distinctive logic + why it matters now.

    It helps you test: what is both true to the model and legible to the outside world.
    09
  • You leave with more than a clearer story about yourself.
    You leave with a system for deciding what to build, express and become next.

The Operating Model does not make every future decision for you.

It gives those decisions a coherent centre.

The Lab creates the strategic and conceptual foundation.
It does not include the full production of a new visual identity, website, content strategy or offer ecosystem. It gives you the operating logic and methodology required to design those elements coherently or to commission them without losing the substance of the model.
THE RIGHT MOMENT · WHEN YOUR OLD PICTURE NO LONGER WORKS
Puzzled Identity is for people whose professional reality has become larger than its current explanation.
Your title matters less than the situation you are in: you have accumulated enough experience to know that your work has a distinctive logic but that logic is still difficult for others to see.
This Lab may be right for you if…
  • 01 · You have outgrown your positioning
    Your current language still reflects a previous professional chapter. It may remain credible, but it no longer opens the doors you want to walk through next.
  • 02 · Your activities make sense separately, but not together
    You may combine consulting, teaching, designing, facilitating, researching, creating tools or developing your own projects. Each is understandable alone. Together, they lack an organising concept.
  • 03 · People see only the most familiar piece
    Others associate you with one role or capability, while the deeper value of your work comes from a much richer combination.
  • 04 · You are moving between professional identities
    You are changing fields, adding a new activity, evolving from practitioner to creator, or building a side project that no longer feels secondary.
    You do not want to erase your previous experience. You need to reposition it inside a larger system.
  • 05 · Your complexity has become commercially inconvenient
    You keep simplifying your work for introductions, profiles and landing pages—then feel that the simplified version attracts the wrong projects or creates the wrong expectations.
  • 06 · You can feel a direction emerging, but cannot yet name it
    The pieces are present: new interests, recurring questions, experiments and ambitions. What is missing is the concept that makes them strategically legible.
  • 07 · You need a foundation before creating the external brand
    You may be preparing to redesign your website, clarify your offers, develop a visual identity, publish content or enter a new market.
  • Particularly relevant for
    • multidisciplinary experts who resist being reduced to a single niche;
    • independent professionals building several connected activities;
    • creatives moving toward strategic or intellectual work;
    • consultants, educators and facilitators developing their own methods;
    • professionals transforming a side activity into a more central direction;
    • experienced specialists entering a significant professional transition;
    • people whose value lies in connecting disciplines, roles or worlds.
THE LAB IN PRACTICE · HOW TO PREPARE
An intensive one-to-one working session, prepared around your material.
Puzzled Identity is not a standardised workshop.
Before we meet, I study your professional material so the live session can focus on investigation, decisions and synthesis.
Before the Lab
You complete a brief covering:
  • your current professional journey, transitions, interests and goals;
  • cognitive dynamics;
  • AI what feels fragmented, outdated or too narrow;
  • the direction you sense but cannot yet articulate.
You can also share your website, professional profile, existing positioning, offers, selected projects or previous brand work.

We use this material to prepare the investigation and identify patterns worth exploring during the Lab.
During the Lab
We work together in an intensive visual session using Miro board, Puzzled Identity solution, and decision frameworks.

This is active co-design work: you react, connect, challenge, select and make choices.
My role is to structure the investigation, reveal relationships you may not see alone and challenge conclusions that arrive too quickly.
After the Lab
We consolidate the essential discoveries and decisions into your Personal Brand Operating Model, accompanied by positioning hypotheses and recommended experiments.

You receive a strategic reference you can use to develop or commission your next positioning, offer architecture, content direction, website or visual identity.
THE INVESTMENT · ONE LAB, ONE MODE, long-term methodology
You are not paying for hours of conversation.
You are investing in the model and methodology behind your next professional chapter.
A new website, visual identity or content strategy cannot resolve a professional identity
that is still organised around the wrong picture.
Puzzled Identity creates the strategic foundation those decisions need before you spend time and money translating an outdated version of yourself.

THE ORIGIN OF THE METHOD · WHY PUZZLED IDENTITY EXISTS
Puzzled Identity was created by someone whose own work never fitted neatly into one professional box.
A new website, visual identity or content strategy cannot resolve a professional identity
that is still organised around the wrong picture.

Puzzled Identity Design Lab creates the strategic foundation those decisions need before you spend time and money translating an outdated version of yourself.
Hi, I am Alex DEDIEU.

Let' me explain how and why I created Puzzled Identity

For more than eighteen years, I've been working at the intersection of education, learning design, entrepreneurial practice and innovative thinking tools that combine learning, psychology, experience design and strategy.

For a long time, this combination was difficult to explain using conventional professional categories. But it also taught me something incredibly powerful:

the disciplines that appear disconnected from the outside can produce a distinctive and valuable system when their relationships are deliberately designed.

Puzzled Identity brings together four years of interdisciplinary research and practical findings, alongside insights from an exclusive three-week international programme in Entrepreneurial Branding 3.0 involving more than 200 participants.

Throughout that journey, I repeatedly encountered the same issue experienced and multidimensional people meet again and again.
They were struggling to represent everything they had become through personal-brand models built around simplification, visual communication, fixed categories and a single market-facing identity. Without identity evolution.

Their complexity was treated as a communication problem.
I began treating it as a design material.
From personal branding to perception engineering

Most of the Brand Strategist's work is to make an identity position through one single extracted thing, usually an offer or expertise. But human identity is an evolving system and personal brand shall take it into account.

My work is not about inventing or crystalising a polished persona or placing another attractive label over an evolving identity.

I design investigative experiences that help people:
  • uncover patterns across disciplines, roles and professional chapters;
  • make invisible capabilities and recurring functions visible;
  • connect evolving identity with strategic possibilities and professional activity;
  • identify the meanings capable of organising different activities;
  • translate complex internal systems into something others can recognise and value.
To do this, I combine strategic investigation with visual mapping, game-design-based methods, cognitive lenses and experience design.
The playful format is a necessary tool to launch mental process by reduicing cognitive load.

It allows us to externalise complex material, move it around, test unexpected connections and see possibilities that often remain inaccessible in a conventional conversation.

Puzzled Identity is the result of the compressed methodology: a Personal Brand 3.0 Design Lab for people whose professional reality has become too complex — and too interesting — for a conventional positioning formula.

Afterwards, your expertise deserves more than a visual identity, but a structured system that aligns identity, mastery, business logic and evolution.

I do not help you choose the most convenient piece to show.
I help you design the system that makes the larger picture intelligible.
A complex identity deserves clear answers.

THE NEXT piece of puzzle · START THE INVESTIGATION
Still carrying pieces that do not fit the current picture?
You do not need to choose one convenient piece and make it represent everything you have become.

Bring the experiences, skills, interests, contradictions and emerging directions that no longer fit your current professional picture.

Together, we will investigate the relationships between them and assemble a Personal Brand Operating Model capable of guiding what you build, express and become next.

You are not starting again. You are finally designing from everything you have already become. //
